15 August 2011 – Google has just announced in a press release that they have come to an agreement with Motorola Mobility in which the tech giant will buy over Motorola for USD 12.5 billion. This translates into an acquisition of USD 40 per share of Motorola stock. Google’s CEO Larry Page had this to say:
An unexpected move to say to the least, but this will now better prepare Google to compete head on against Apple’s iPhone, as a wholly-owned hardware subsidiary will give the Google complete control over device hardware. How this will affect Google’s relationship with other Android partners remains to be seen.
