Comparison - LG Optimus 2X vs Apple iPhone 4

01 August 2011 – The LG Optimus 2X was announced in December 2010 and the Apple iPhone 4 was announced in April 2010.
Both the LG Optimus 2X and the Apple iPhone 4 are quad-band devices, but the Apple iPhone 4 supports many more variations of UMTS frequencies than the LG Optimus 2X. The LG Optimus 2X weighs 139g and the Apple iPhone 4 weighs 137g, almost a negligible difference between both the devices. The LG Optimus 2X displays 480 x 800 pixels onto a 4.0-inch screen and the Apple iPhone 4 displays 640 x 960 pixels onto a 3.5-inch screen. Obviously, the Apple iPhone 4 has better resolution than the LG Optimus 2X.

The Apple iPhone 4 uses a single-core 1 GHz Apple A4 processor to drive its own iOS. The LG Optimus 2X uses a dual-core 1GHz NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor to drive Android OS 2.2 (Froyo).

The Apple iPhone 4 has a 5-megapixel main camera and the LG Optimus 2X has an 8-megapixel main camera. The LG Optimus 2X has a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera while the Apple iPhone 4 has a 0.3-megapixel front-facing camera. The LG Optimus 2X is capable of recording video at 1920x1080 (1080p HD) while the Apple iPhone 4 is only capable of recording video at 1280x720 (720p HD) (30 fps).


The LG Optimus 2X comes with 8 GBs and the Apple iPhone 4 has 16 or 32 GB versions. The LG Optimus 2X can accept microSD cards of up to 32 GBs. The Apple iPhone 4 does not accept memory cards.

I would say that the LG Optimus 2X has a slight edge over the Apple iPhone 4. It has a dual-core processor, a better megapixel rating and expansion card capability. Plus, the LG Optimus 2X is roughly three-quarters the price of the Apple iPhone 4.

Of course, each device comes with its own ecosystem, a whole range of support services and applications that are unique to each device. Apple has its App store and its programs and services, while the LG Optimus 2X is an Android device and therefore gets its apps mainly from the Android marketplace.

There are numerous payment schemes for the iPhone 4, even some where the local Malaysian Telco has a zero down payment offer. However, it would cost quite a lot of monthly payments to ransom the iPhone 4 from its contract. Before that contract time is up you would likely find that an iPhone 5 and iPhone 6 are already out there, on sale.

The new hardware includes, a front-facing video chat camera, a 5.0-megapixel camera with LED flash, Micro-SIM instead of standard SIM (like the iPad), and an improved display. The phone itself saw quite a few changes- a flat back, an aluminium border around the phone, it is also smaller than the 3GS, has a 16% larger battery and smaller components. The storage capacity of the iPhone 4 remains at 16 and 32GB.

The iPhone 4 has a 960 x 640 pixel display, a secondary microphone for noise cancellation, split buttons for volume, Power, mute, and volume buttons are all metallic. In addition to the accelerometer, there is a gyroscope for added positional accuracy.
